CIRCLE OF CARE

Epilepsy

"How can I help?" Friends of families of those with epilepsy are often anxious to find out what they can do to lessen the heavy burden of medical problems and the high cost of medical care and special equipment. Now there is a direct, tangible way to make a contribution for a specific need. It is called the Epilepsy "Circle of Care".

The Epilepsy "Circle of Care" Fund is a response to the need for help that is not covered by any other source, thus causing a major burden on the families. Examples are medicines whose costs are beyond what the family can afford yet needed by the person with epilepsy. At other times, it may be medical equipment that is needed and not covered by insurance or Medicaid. To help with these problems the Epilepsy Alliance NC has created the "Circle of Care", a fund designed to help specific needs that are approved by the Alliance. Each "Circle" consists of family members, friends, church members, or any others who would like to support a particular need. Each "friend" sends a donation to the Epilepsy Alliance “Circle of Care” Fund, designating the specific need. One hundred percent of the gift will be used for the designated need.

Members of the circle can make monthly donations or a lump sum donation, and 100 per cent of the donation will be used for the coverage of the specified need. In this way, the financial burden of the family is greatly lessened, and friends have a way of showing they care. If many “friends” chip in, it makes it easier for everyone and your donation will be tax deductible. Ever give to a charity and wonder where the money is really going and how it is being used? Now you have a chance to see exactly how your charitable donation is being used.

Current Needs

Our identified need at this time is for Baby Elizabeth:

This family welcomed their first baby with the same hopes every parent holds—dreams of first milestones, quiet moments at home, and a healthy future. Soon after the baby turned 4 months old, dreams were shaken when their child was diagnosed with infantile spasms, a rare and severe form of epilepsy that requires immediate and ongoing medical care. Since the diagnosis, their days have been filled with hospital visits, urgent treatments, and difficult decisions no new parent ever expects to face. The emotional toll is heavy, and the financial strain has grown quickly as medical expenses and time away from work for specialized care continue to add up. Due to the specificity of the condition and treatment, they have been forced to go out of network for some of the baby’s medical care and the family does not presently have the resources to keep up with the increasing amount due. For 2026 alone, outside of standard co-pays for items covered by insurance, the family anticipates an additional $30,000 in medical bills.  Your donation will go directly toward helping this family manage the costs of treatment and care, easing their burden during an incredibly fragile time.

All donations are tax-deductible and 100% of donations go directly to pay medical bills.
